José Benito Barros Palomino fue un compositor colombiano, nacido en El Banco, Magdalena, el 21 de marzo de 1915, y fallecido en Santa Marta el 12 de mayo de 2007.Agustín Lara (considerado el más grande compositor de México) lo consideró el compositor "más grande de Latinoamérica".
La obra de este compositor ha sido ampliamente interpretada por artistas de la talla de La Sonora Matancera, Carlos Vives, Tito Cortés, Charlie Figueroa y Bovea y sus Vallenatos.
